Touching Yarn before Purchasing

Are you like me and like to touch your yarn before you purchase it?  I know I do.  When I see yarn online and it's a little more pricier, I may be reserved in following through with a purchase, especially if I need to box it up and send it back.  Sometimes the pictures may not be accurate
and the yarn colors are different upon arrival.

I would like to see a yarn sample section in stores where we could touch the yarn not available in the store.  This way when we go home to purchase online, we have a good idea what we are purchasing.  When you go into a home improvement store, they have fabric samples so you can feel what you are getting before you purchase draperies.  Same with carpet.  With yarn online, we are guessing at how it feels.

Offer a discount to the customer and referral to the store with the online purchase.   Instead of Internet and Brick/Mortar completing, they could work together to enhance our selections.

Maybe it already exists in some larger communities.

Solid Crochet Square Baby Afghan

Image
This afghan is approximately 24" across. You can continue with the basic pattern to make it larger. I found that it was necessary to switch to a smaller crochet hook on round 14, otherwise it was getting to full on the edges. The video will get you started for the first 5 rounds. I would recommend a simple reverse or backward single crochet edging.

Extended or Long Double Crochet - This is where you will work a double crochet several stitches below the row you are on. You will need to pull up on the stitch and allow for some additional yarn, so the stitch does not sag.

Multiple: 4
You will add 4 chains for each segment of the pattern stitch that you want to add to the width.

Example: If you want to make a baby afghan with a size I/5.5mm crochet hook, 4-ply yarn, you will chain 108. This will give you an estimated width of 34 inches.

Ch 31
Row 1: DC in 3rd CH from hook, DC in next CH, *CH 1, SK 1 CH, 1 DC in EA of next 3 CH. Continue across from * for width of pattern.

Row 2: CH 3, 1 DC in EA of next 2 DC, *CH 1, SK CH, 1 DC in EA of next 3 DC. Continue acr…

Stitch Instructions and Definitions
Continual Round:  Instead of joining, work a single crochet in top of the first stitch. Working a continual round will eliminate the unsightly seam that occurs with joining a round.

Yarn Marker: A yarn marker is used to identify the first/last stitch of each round. This is so you have an idea when to change rounds with your instructions.  I use left over yarn tails, which are…

Crochet Leaf Metta

This is a video tutorial for a crochet leaf that is quick and simple to make.  You can use scrap yarn.  I used 4 ply worsted weight yarn with this leaf, which is the 9-13 wraps per inch and a size G-4.25 mm crochet hook.
