DC - Double Crochet

SL ST - Slip Stitch
FPDC - Front Post Double Crochet

Materials
Size I/5.5 mm crochet hook
4 ply yarn worsted weight - 2 colors
9-12 Wraps per inch/2.5 CM
Tapestry Needle

In the tutorial, I worked the yarn by passing one color to the front and the other color to the back.  Later in the hat I did notice that the strand passed to the front may show a little more than it being passed to the back.  You can decide if you want to keep the yarn separated, passing one to the front and one to the back or pass both to the back.  You will need to unwind your yarn every so often by passing both to the back.

The chain 1 will not count as a stitch, only the step up.

Chain 16, join.

Round 1: Work 16 double crochet through the chain, join with the beginning chain.

The double crochet will be worked between each stitch.

This cap will be worked with two colors at the same time.

Optional Stitch Effect:The image shows an effect for working 7 double crochet and 7 single crochet staggering the stitches to create a wave.  I worked this after the increase rounds were over. If you want to work this on the smaller hats it can be done as well. I will use round 9 with 50 stitches as the example.  You would work 5 double crochet, 5 single crochet, staggering the stitches.

There are various places where you can stop to make smaller caps.  I have provided a size estimate for the yarn I am using

How to Repair a Crochet Foundation without Ripping

Image
+Crochet Geek We have all had those times where the foundation of an afghan or scarf is not as good as the rest of our work.  Since we have worked many additional rows or even finished it, we may look for an alternative to ripping out.  What I am about to suggest will seem scary and extreme but it will work and save yourself a lot of headaches.

I have repaired crochet many times and cut in to a thread doily because I didn't want to rip out.  I have repaired doily's and afghans that have had holes.  When you look at attaching a new color of yarn to an existing strand of yarn, it is not much different.

The following is what I suggest for creating a new foundation, for a crochet afghan where the beginning is not as good as the rest of the project.

I suggest you carefully cut the loops on the previous row. Don't just cut through as you would a piece of paper or fabric because this will cut your next row as well.

I am including an image of single crochet with this example. You wil…
