Doer of the Week

I learned some exciting news yesterday. Back in early summer I entered a contest on the Martha Stewart website called "Dreamers in to Doers".  I have been selected as "Doer of the Week" and featured in the Martha Stewart Newsletter for October 7, 2009. The winners of the contest will be announced on Thursday October 8, 2009 and Friday October 9, 2009.

Current Crochet Project and Fall Memories

I am finishing up a thread doily, just because I love working with thread.  What is everyone working on now?  Are you getting started with holiday projects?  Maybe you have finished already.  Here in the USA, we have Fall upon us along with Halloween at the end of the month.   I know Germany is in the middle of Oktoberfest. Please share favorite family traditions or celebrations that are happening this time of the year in your country .

One of my favorite memories is from when I was a kid. My parents would take us to the local apple orchard in the fall.  We would get some pumpkins, apples, gourds and apple cider. It always smelled so good there.  Once we got everything home, over the next few days my mom would be busy making caramel apples and homemade apple pies.

Turning Chain at the End of a Row - Chain and Turn or Turn and Chain - Crochet Tip #55

There can be a lot of confusion with written instructions that say "Chain and turn" or "Turn and Chain".  It all means the same thing.  I like to turn and then chain because that is what I have become accustomed to. The chain represents a stitch or the step up for the first row.

How you turn your work is also preference and up to you. Sometimes I will notice a difference on the edge, if I turn my work counterclockwise.  Most of the time it does not make any difference and is not noticeable. If it is something that will be covered up with an edge, it will not matter.

It is something left up for you to decide if you want to chain and turn or turn and chain.  The direction you turn your work is also preference.
