Long First Loop - This is pulling the loop already on the hook, up about the height of a double crochet. I have found this technique blends the loops with the puff stitch, where a chain 3 will be visible.
Puff Stitch:
Wrap the yarn over your hook, insert the hook through the stitch or space. Wrap the yarn over the hook and pull through. There will be 3 loops on the hook.
Wrap the yarn over your hook. Insert the hook through the same stitch or space. Wrap the yarn over the hook and pull through. There will be 5 loops on the hook.

Turning Chain at the End of a Row - Chain and Turn or Turn and Chain - Crochet Tip #55

There can be a lot of confusion with written instructions that say "Chain and turn" or "Turn and Chain".  It all means the same thing.  I like to turn and then chain because that is what I have become accustomed to. The chain represents a stitch or the step up for the first row.

How you turn your work is also preference and up to you. Sometimes I will notice a difference on the edge, if I turn my work counterclockwise.  Most of the time it does not make any difference and is not noticeable. If it is something that will be covered up with an edge, it will not matter.

It is something left up for you to decide if you want to chain and turn or turn and chain.  The direction you turn your work is also preference.

Easing is gathering a portion of the project to match and fit the piece it is being attached to.  In the case of the cupcake, the side is slightly larger than the bottom. Popcorn Stitch - For this pattern there will be 5 Double Crochet made in the same stitch, joining with the first stitch. Front Post Single Crochet - Instead of working the stitch in the top, it will be worked around the post of the stitch.
