Skill Level - Easy

Abbreviations
DC - Double Crochet
HDC - Half Double Crochet
CH - Chain
SL ST - Slip Stitch

Materials
Size G/4.25 mm crochet hook
4 ply yarn
Tapestry Needle

Small Medallion

Chain 4, join
Round 1: Work 14 Half Double Crochet around the chain. Join.
Round 2: Work 16 Single Crochet around the previous round. Join. Cut the yarn, pull through and secure.
Working around the previous round will make the medallion thick and sturdy.

Attaching a contrasting color.

Round 3: Put your hook through the top of any stitch, wrap the yarn over and pull through.  Slip stitch loosely through the top of each stitch around.  When you get to the beginning, cut your yarn and pull it to the front.  Insert your hook from the back of the medallion to the front and pull the tail to the back.  This will blend the slip stitches together so they look similar.  On the backside of your medallion, knot the beginning and end tails together and then sew between the stitches to hide the tails.

Large Medallion
Chain 10, join

Round 1: Work a chain 1, this is the step up and will not count as a stitch. Work 25 Double Crochet around the ring.
Cut the yarn and secure.

This next round is a round of slip stitches with a drop stitch through the center every five stitches.
Attach contrasting color through any stitch.
Round 2: Work a slip stitch through the top of 4 stitches. Drop through the center of the medallion, pull the yarn through and secure through the top of the stitch.  Repeat 5 times total.

I used the twisted cord as the top extension.

Three medallions are sewn together through the back stitches.  Each side is sewn to the larger medallion with a slight angle to the left and to the right.  The twisted cord is sewn to each of the top medallions.
