Unique Ideas for Crochet Projects

Image
When my daughter was born, I remember someone sending a little pink ceramic bootie with a flower. With that memory in mind, I thought it would be fun to stiffen the crochet hightop so it could hold flowers. I used a stiffening product called Smooth On 327. I purchased it after watching it used on a segment of Martha Stewart. The flowers are held in place with some flower foam that can be purchased from your local craft store.

I also stiffened a doily in to a basket shape. I can see many different ways to use the basket. Someone may be doing a wedding with a budget. This would be a great way to add an elegant personal touch. A liner could be added to the basket with some moss and flowers for a unique floral arrangement. You could also do a candy basket or bath accessory basket.

Event Crochet Lace

Image
You may have an event coming up soon like a graduation, wedding or dance recital. Crochet is a great way to add an inexpensive unique, elegant touch to any event. Think about what you may have in your own pattern library. It does not have to be fancy, difficult or expensive. I am really fond of the cliche', less is more. This is taking something really simple and turning it in to an elegant piece. Lets look at some basic shapes; circle, rectangle and square. Each of the following pieces can be made with a simple double crochet, chain or a combination of both.
The rectangle can be made in to an elegant hair bow or napkin ring. Two squares can be made in to an outer cover for a ring bearer pillow.A small circle motif can be tied with a nice little bow and filled with gift items for wedding party.A crochet square can be made into a handkerchief and embellished with some flowersStore bought napkins and place mats can be decorated with a crochet edgingCircle motifs can be shaped in to el…

Image
Saturday 01-NOV-08: Congratulations to Vidya V.

Sunday 26-OCT-08: Thank you everyone for all the great comments.I appreciate all of them.

I have decided to give away some of the hats and projects that I have made. This giveaway will consist of 3 crochet hats and a lace pineapple-popcorn doily. The hats will fit a 22-24" head. The doily is 16" across made with size 20 crochet cotton. The flowers can be removed from the hats, if you are not fond of the flowers. You could recycle the flowers to a granny square of another project. Just a thought.

The rules are as follows:
Post 1 comment on this blog. It does not have to be crochet related. If you want to tell about a vacation you took over the summer, what you will be doing for the holidays, a new baby in the family, an achievement, graduation; the comment is up to you. If you have a more creative way to choose a winner for possible future giveaways, that will be great. A sentence or two will be fine.

Crochet Bullion or Roll Stitch

Image
I have wanted to master the bullion stitch for years. It was difficult for me to achieve anything but a big twisted yarn mess. I could not find instructions other than wrapping the yarn around the hook several times and then pulling it through the hook. A few weeks ago, a member of my Video Crochet group on Ravelry asked if I knew how to do the Bullion stitch. I told her I knew how it should be done, but I was not successful. After that I got to thinking again on how I could be successful with this stitch. That led me to come up with two techniques that both have a high success rate. To begin with, you should never worry about how slow or how fast you are crocheting, especially with this stitch it is better to focus on slow, accurate and you will have great success!
