Crochet Tunisian Butterfly




I recently did a tutorial for a crochet butterfly with the Tunisian Stitch and used Lion Brand Bon Bon Yarn.  I have to admit, it was a fun project that worked up quick and easy.  Give me some ideas and challenge me to makes something else out of the Bon Bon Yarn.



Make 1 large square and 1 small square
Large Square - Chain 15, 14 Stitches - 6 Rows
Small Square - Chain 13, 12 Stitches - 5 Rows

Skill Level - Intermediate

Materials
Size E/3.25 mm crochet hook
Lion Brand Bon Bon Yarn
Tapestry Needle




Row 1:
Pass 1: Put your hook through the chain, wrap the yarn over and pull through, work an extra chain *Put your hook through the next chain, wrap the yarn over and pull through,work an extra chain, continue across leaving all loops on your hook * until you have 14 loops on your hook.
Pass 2: On the edge only, you will wrap the yarn over, pull through one loop, The remaining stitches will be wrap the yarn over, pull through two, Wrap the yarn over pull through two until you work all the loops of your hook, there will be a total of 14.

Abbreviations
DC - Double Crochet
CH - Chain
SL ST - Slip Stitch


Materials
Size I/5.5 mm crochet hook
4 ply yarn
Tapestry Needle

Chenille Wire or Pipe Cleaner

Chain 5, join
Round 1:  CH 1, 3 DC, Chain 8, 3 DC, CH 5, 3 DC, CH 5, 3 DC, CH 8, join with the first stitch. SL ST to the center DC. 

Round 2: Work 8 DC in the chain loop, Work 8 DC in the chain loop.  *SL ST in center DC.  In the next CH 5 loop, work 5 DC, CH 3, SL ST in same stitch, Work 5 DC in same chain, complete twice from *.  SL ST in center DC.  Work 8 DC in the chain loop, Work 8 DC in the chain loop. Sl ST in center DC, cut yarn, pull through. 

Wrap and shape wire around center.  Shape antenna.

If you don't have wire available, you can cut several strands together, tie to center.  Separate strands at top and knot for antenna.  See image above for example.

Crochet Butterfly Sadie

Abbreviations

DC - Double Crochet

SL ST - Slip Stitch
SC - Single Crochet


Materials
Size I/5.5 mm crochet hook
4 ply yarn
Tapestry Needle

Optional: Chenille Wire stem for butterfly body
Optional: Magnet

Chain 5, join

Round 1: Chain 1 (won't count as a stitch), *2 DC through the chain, Chain 3, continue around from * 8 times total. Join with the beginning stitch. ( 8 sets of 2 DC, CH 3)

Round 2:  Work a slip stitch between the double crochet.  Work a chain 1, *SC between the DC. Working in the next chain 3 space, work 4 DC, CH 3, SL ST to DC, 4 DC in same space. Complete from * a total of 8 times.  Join with the beginning stitch.  ( 8 sets of 4 DC, CH 3 join, 4 DC, SC between DC)

Upon completion, you will fold and align the double crochet together so there are 4 sections on each side.  Sew together so they stay in place. Knot secure and sew in the tails.

Chenille Stem:  Approximately 8 inches.  Align around the butterfly.  Twist at the top and shape antenna. 

Magnet: Glue a magnet to the back for using on a refrigerator or magnetic board.
