Crochet Granny Square Flower Julia How to Make






Crochet Geek will demonstrate a crochet granny square with a flower in the center. This square is worked with  four ply worsted weight yarn and a size I, 5.5 millimeter crochet hook. Abbreviations
DC - Double Crochet
HDC - Half Double Crochet
CH - Chain
SL ST - Slip Stitch

SP - Space

Materials
Size I/5.5mm crochet hook
4 ply worsted weight yarn
Tapestry Needle


Petals - Make 5
Work a chain 4, join.
Row 1: Work a chain 1, this will not count as a stitch. Work 10 HDC through the chain. Turn
Row 2: Work a chain 1, this will not count as a stitch. Work 2 HDC in each stitch around.  Work a slip stitch with the first stitch.
We will have a slightly curved up teardrop shape. 

Slip stitch all the flower petals together at the base. Sew in all the tails.

Flower Center
Chain 3, join.
Row 1: Work a chain 1, this will not count as a stitch. Work 9 HDC through the chain.  Join.
Row 2: Work a chain 1, this will not count as a stitch. Work 1 HDC in each stitch around.  Join. It will curl up.  Sew in the center tail.
Place the flower center over the center of the flower and sew.

Square

Flip the flower to the back side and find any loop to work through.  Attach the yarn between the center and petals.

Round 1: *Work a single crochet, chain 4, evenly around.  Complete 4 times total from*, join with the beginning stitch.  

Work a slip stitch into the chain 4 space.

Round 2:  work a chain 1, the chain 1 will not count as a stitch, only the step up. *Work 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC in the CH 4 space, CH 1, complete from * 4 times total. Work a slip stitch to join with the first stitch.

Work a slip stitch over to the chain 2 space.  Work through the first chain to get over to the 2nd part of the chain.

Round 3:  work a chain 1, the chain 1 will not count as a stitch, only the step up.  Work 3 DC in the same SP, *CH 1, work 3 DC in the next CH 1 SP, CH 1 work 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC in the next CH 2 Space, Complete 3 times from *, work a chain 1, 3 DC in the next chain space, CH 1, work 3 DC in the next chain 2 space. Work a HDC to join.  

We will end at the center of the point by working a half double crochet to join.

Round 4:  work a chain 1, the chain 1 will not count as a stitch, only the step up.  Work 3 DC in the same SP, *CH 1, work 3 DC in the next CH 1 SP, CH 1, work 3 DC in the next CH 1 SP, CH 1 work 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC in the next CH 2 Space, Complete 3 times from *, work a chain 1, 3 DC in the next chain space, CH 1, work a chain 1, 3 DC in the next chain space, CH 1, CH 1, work 3 DC in the next chain 2 space. Work a HDC to join.  

You can continue making the square as large as you want to make it.  When you end, you can work a chain 2 to join instead of the half double crochet.
