Skill Level - Intermediate

Abbreviations
DC - Double Crochet
HDC - Half Double Crochet
CH - Chain
SL ST - Slip Stitch

PC - Popcorn

Popcorn - Work 4 double crochet, join with the first stitch.  This creates a raised stitch.

Materials
Size __/__ mm crochet hook
4 ply yarn
Tapestry Needle


Chain 6, join.

Round 1: Chain 2, Work a HDC, CH 2, *Work 2 HDC, CH 2, continue around from *, join (there will be 6 sets of 2HDC, CH 2)

Round 2: Slip stitch over to the chain 2 space, work a chain 1 which is the step up, PC CH 2, PC Ch 2 in each space around, join with the first stitch ( 12 popcorn stitches total with a chain 2 between each stitch)

Round 3: Slip stitch over to the chain 2 space, work a chain 2, which is the first stitch, work a HDC in the chain space, CH 2, 2 HDC in the same chain space. *Work 3 SC in the next chain space, work 3 SC in the next chain space. Work 2 HDC, CH 2, 2 HDC in the next chain space. Continue around to the beginning.  Join with the first stitch.  Refer to the diagram chart for stitch placement.

Flip the square around.  We will be working the 5 double crochet in the center space between the two sets of single crochet. 

Rounded Segments: 
Row 1: Work 5 double crochet with a chain 1 between each stitch, work a slip stitch in the 3rd single crochet, work a slip stitch in the next stitch turn.
Row 2: Work a popcorn, chain 2, in each double crochet across. (5 popcorn stitches, chain 2 between each) work a slip stitch in the chain 2 space, turn  It does curl up slightly at this point.
Row 3:  Work a double crochet in the popcorn stitch and 2 double crochet in each chain space across, slip stitch in chain space. Slip stitch over the the 2nd single crochet. Repeat rows 1-3 for the second rounded segment.
  ( 13 Double crochet with a chain 1 between each stitch)
