Miniature Holiday Christmas Tree Crochet Geek

Image
Miniature Holiday Christmas Tree

This is a quick and easy crochet Christmas Tree.  It is worked up as a crochet curly Q and then sewn together to hold its shape.  I added French Knot Berries.

What are some ways you will use your tree?  What embellishments will you add to your tree?

Now you will need to shape the curly in one direction. You can adjust the fullness of your tree in how tight or loose you twist it together. Tack periodically throughout the twist so your tree will keep its shape. You can sew or tack the top point of the tree to give it more shape. You can add decorative ornaments by adding a french knot. Other ideas to embellish your tree are: Glitter, Beads, Buttons…

Double Thick Crochet Potholders from Crochet Geek

Today's recommended crochet videos are going to be 5 double thick crochet potholders made with crochet cotton yarn.  I have been guilty of making these potholders out of acrylic yarn in the past.  However acrylic yarn will burn and melt with  heat and hot items.  Ask me how I know.  I only recommend using 100% cotton. There is a wider range of colors with cotton yarn if you shop online.   Your local yarn store may also have some specialty yarn that will not be found in the chain stores.  Many of the local yarn stores will have a website where you can purchase yarn through mail order.

The first double thick pot holder is made with the ring at the top and two increase points similar to the ripple crochet or Chevron crochet technique.

This next magic crochet double thick potholder is created with the single crochet. It is flexible technique where you can make different sizes. You start off crocheting what looks like a flat pouch. Upon completion, you fold the two open edges together a…

Crochet Round and Spiral or Continual Round - Crochet Geek

Image
Click on Image for larger view. You will be able to see a different between the two.

There are two techniques that can be done when creating a crochet circle.
Each time you do a round, you do a slip stitch, then the chain 1 for the step up to the next round. If you are doing a spiral/continual you will not be be joining.
Here are two simple ways to remember the difference between round and spiral.
1: Round - Slip Stitch to join at the beginning of each round.
2: Spiral or Continual - No Slip Stitch

When doing a spiral/continual a marker is recommended to mark the beginning row of a spiral. I just use a scrap piece of yarn. You don't have to purchase anything fancy. Another thing that happens is that the marker will shift to the right as the beginning stitch will shift to the left.
When you are creating a doily or motif, most likely you will be working in rounds. For hats, caps, amigurumi shapes, rugs, or afghans that are continual with the same stitch, I prefer a continual round.…

Crochet Lace Pineapple Doily - Crochet Geek

I am sharing my instructions the old fashioned way, sort of.  When I write my instructions, I use pencil and paper.  To create a chart like this takes a lot of additional time, so its easier to scan the image.  Who knows, maybe one day I may re-do the crochet symbol chart.  I know this will make sense to many of you who crochet with thread.

Please share your pictures with me when you get them complete. +CROCHET GEEK

I used a size 5 steel crochet hook and size 10 crochet cotton.

Crochet Dream Catcher by Crochet Geek

Image
Dream catchers originated with Ojibwe people and then later became symbolic with Native American Indians.  The legend is mothers and grandmothers using cord and strands from plants to create decorative wooden hoops with a spiderweb center. They hung over the bed of children and babies to filter out the bad dreams and nightmares.    You can attach beads, charms and stones for added decorative elements.

I worked single crochet around the hoop.  The hoop was custom made from picture frame wire.  Traditional dream catchers were using wooden hoop so you can use that instead if you have them available.  The second round is working a round of the shell.  The round starts with a single crochet.  You can choose how many stitches you want to skip.  I skipped a combination of 2 or 3 stitches.  Then I worked a shell of five double crochet.

Double Crochet

You can work a chain 3 for the beginning double crochet or work a chain, pull up and then work the full double crochet.  I have come to like the last technique better since it does not leave the holes that come with the chain.
To work the double crochet, wrap the yarn over your hook, insert your hook through the top of the stitch, wrap the yarn over your hook, pull through two loops, wrap the yarn over your hook pull through two loops to complete the double crochet.

There are a couple of ways to make the dress larger or smaller. 1. You can change the hook size to an E,G, or I.
2. You can add a couple more stitches to the under arm of the yoke. You could use 6 or 7 chains or chainless foundations stitch if you wanted to make the chest larger.

The chain can be used instead of the chainless foundation.
