Size Estimate - 14-16 inch 36-41CM head

Abbreviations
DC - Double Crochet
HDC - Half Double Crochet
CH - Chain
SL ST - Slip Stitch

HDC DEC - Half Double Crochet Decrease

Materials
Size G/4.25mm crochet hook
3ply yarn
Tapestry Needle



Half Double Crochet Decrease:  Wrap the yarn over your hook insert it through the first stitch and pull through,  leaving all loop on the hook, wrap the yarn over your hook, insert it through the next stitch, wrap the yarn over and pull through,  wrap the yarn over you hook, and pull through all the loops on your hook.  This completes the half double crochet decrease.

CH 3
Round 1: Ch 2, 11 HDC in loop, do not join. (12 HDC)



Round 2: 2 HDC in-between each HDC; (24 HDC) mark beginning stitch with marker.


Round 3: 1 HDC in-between next st, 2 HDC(HDC INC) in-between next st; (36 HDC)


Round 4: 1 HDC in-between ea HDC around to beg marker.


Round 5: 1 HDC in-between each of the next 2 st's, 2 HDC in next space; continue around to beg marker. (48 HDC total)


Round 6-21: HDC in-between each HDC around to desired length of cap.

Earflap:  
Row 1: Work 1 HDC in each of the next 8 stitches (8 stitches)
Row 2: Ch1, Work 1 HDC in each stitch across (8 stitches)
Row 3: Ch 1, work a HDC Decrease(see details above) in the first two stitches, work 1 HDC in each of the next 4 stitches, work a HDC Decrease in the last two stitches  (6 stitches) 
Row 4-5:  Ch 1 work 1 HDC in each of the next 6 stitches (6 stitches) 
Row 6:  Work 3 half double crochet decrease (3 stitches)

Skip 12-14 stitches for the back of the cap to place the second earflap.

Work a single crochet edging around.

  3. PLEASE convert these instructions into an adult size using the same type stitch of half double crochet. I'm begging you, Teresa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know how what the directions would be to make the top of the hat larger for an adult. I would then assume you jus continue after that with the same directions.

  8. How would I increase this for a baby whose head is 17"? I'm sorry if this is a simple question but I've only been doing this for five days.
