Crochet Environment Question

What type of environment do you like when you are crocheting? Do you like noise, quiet or in-between? I have found that I can crochet in any place but I do better in a less distracted environment.

  1. I like carrying my crocheting around with me where ever I go. It's always in my purse. Sometimes I get really fidgety, and it totally helps me chill out!

  2. Rebel Mel: That happens to me to but I don't always have my crochet along.

  3. I love to crochet anywhere. One of my favourites is at the park when the children are off playing. Sometimes I worry people will think I'm odd . . . but crochet is such fun that I don't really care at the end of the day.

  4. When I can I take my crochet along with me but usually since I am deaf noise does not bother me and I do like to have the television on for me to feast my eyes elsewhere when I need to rest my hands for a bit. Homebound at the moment with a sprained ankle and so its nice to be able to do some crochet. I find I have to be careful not to overdo because of arthritis in my hands and wrists.

  5. Having seven kids there really is never a time when the house is quiet (except maybe bedtime?) so I use my knitting and crochet as a way to relax in the midst of chaos :))

It relaxes me, it calms me and frankly keeps my sanity at times. When i seem to be running in circles in terms of keeping up with 9 peoples dishes, cooking and laundry, I at least feel productive when I can see the progress I am making on a project :)

ANY environment is a great environment as long as I have my yarn and needle(s) :))

  6. I've only been crocheting for under a year, so I still like a quiet environment in which I can focus on the stitches. I'll play music on low, but if I'm districted by the tv then I usually have to pull rows out because I did something wrong.

Thank you for your attention to providing left-handed videos, Teresa! I'm a lefty, but I crochet right-handed because I didn't find the left-handed videos when I initially started to learn. By the time I did find them, it messed with my head to try to change, but I do still appreciate that you look out for us left-handed folk. Thanks, again!

  7. I have just started crocheting. I found a great way to do it! I use my wii to get youtube on my tv. I sit in the lazy boy and watch your videos. I can pause the video and rewind when I need help. Who could resist recliner crochet?

  8. ps. I'm left handed like the above commenter and I really appreciate your left handed videos as I crochet left handed!

  9. I am a computer programmer so I like to crochet while my code is compiling, in silence at my computer XD

  10. I like to crochet anywhere: with the TV on if I'm doing something easy; sitting out on my screened in porch listening to the birds singing; in our truck towing our RV down the road; sitting in my recliner in our RV. I'm a lefty. The first time I took up crochet I did it left handed. The 2nd and 3rd time I decided to do it right handed so I wouldn't have to reverse anything. I was pleased to see that you had left handed videos even though I'm using my right hand for now. I just love to crochet - love the colors and the stitches. The possibilities are unlimited. Your blog is wonderful and I have used your videos many times.

  11. I'm a beginner, so until I learn a pattern I prefer little distraction. Once I get going on a hat and know the stitches, I like to listen to books which are downloaded from my library to my laptop. I have your tutorial open and paused in another window for reference. When it warms up, I plan to crochet on the patio while listening to books.

I am finding that I have a real lack of knowledge in types of yarns and when to use them. Could you do a tutorial on that? From doily cotton string, including embroidery floss, up through the bulky stuff, and which yarns are best to double (and when)?

  12. I usually crochet while listening to podcasts or watching TV in the evening. It is relaxing for me to do something with my hands while listening/watching with my head.

  14. I take mine with me most everywhere. I have had to start placing it in my backseat when I am driving, because at red lights I would pick it up and crochet, I would not alway put it down when the light turned green--and people think Texting and driving is dangerous! Try it with hooks and needles.

  15. I like to crochet when ever i get the urge, but I really like to when I'm bored or anxious. This is usually when I'm home from school, but I can't crochet much because a lot of people in my house smoke cigs.

  16. I like wither quiet or some music classical or some reggae works fine, i love watching a new movie also when i have memorized the pattern because then i can focus on the movie and just let my fingers move, i actually find that im more in the moment when im all alone and just crocheting or knitting. i get very relaxed and calm and nothing no matter how crazy really bothers me

  17. I like to crochet in front of the computer because I can follow your video instruction thru Youtube. By the way, is it possible to crochet an Orchid flower? I really like to learn from you. Can you teach me thru Youtube video?

  18. I crochet anywhere I can. I have crocheted in the car. I usually crochet when I am setting in my chair watching tv. I just get crocheting at a pretty good speed. Beofre I know, I ahve crocheted quite a lot.

  19. I crochet while watching TV. It helps me to not feel so guilty about watching TV. I also carry a ziplock bag around in my purse that contains a small project for me to work on - such as a baby burp rag edge or a washcloth. Then, when I'm stuck waiting some where, I don't feel like I'm wasting time just waiting.

  20. I always liked crocheting when I was watching TV. I havan't crocheted in quite a few months now, but think I might start another blanket, we all use them when it gets chilly. I really have enjoyed visiting your blog. Nice job.

  21. I like to crochet in the van, while talking to my husband, or just to relax a moment on the sofa and still feel productive while my children play.

BUT ... what I wanted to say is, I am learning so much from your videos!!!! I will watch a vid, then make a washcloth out of that stitch. A little project, but I'm learning. I do hope I learn to be really good someday....like, able to do a shawl or something!

In the meantime, I just stick to baby afghans and my washcloths. :P

  23. Same here...I can and do crochet everywhere...in the car (no..not whilst driving), in a plane, on the sofa...at this moment I am blogging and crocheting on my deskchair with a puppy sleeping on my lap! But I do agree, sometimes, specially when making something a little more difficult, it is better to do it in a quiet place...
    Happy crocheting! Floortje

  24. I like to crochet while watching TV. But if it's a new pattern I don't want the TV to be too loud. I like to take projects along to places where I am forced to wait, Dr's offices, piano lessons, etc...
