Crochet Hats I have Sold

Often I am asked if I ever sold hats. These are some of the hats that I sold around 2006. I love making hats and wanted to turn it in to a business. Unfortunately there were more expenses than profit. I was selling on Ebay and Etsy which both have fees. Hats are only worth as much as a person is willing to spend. In the end, I was giving the hats away and paying the middle man what little profit I may have earned.

  1. T- These hats are gorgeous! Did you try approaching boutiques in your area that sell handmade items? Sometimes you can sell things for a lot more money at those kinds of stores (as apposed to ebay and etsy) since people like the idea of saying "oh I got this hat at that cute boutique on xyz street". It's a shame that you're not making money on selling your products since you're so talented! :)

  2. Wow!!! Just an idea, since you have such a great blog, you could sell your hats straight from your blog with no middle man. You could post a picture and a price and I am pretty sure you would get many offers. Your hats are amazing!

At any rate, thanks so much for all of your tutorials. I love making the flowers. They can be added to just about anything!

  4. Beautiful hats! I agree - cut out the middle man. Sell your hats straight from your blog or set up your on website...it's not hard and pretty inexpensive. I've heard that Intuit.com is a great option for setting up your own website.

  5. Love your hats (and everything else). I'm so glad I found this site!

I'm just curious, how long does it take you to make the average hat? I love to crochet, but I'm s-l-o-w. :)

  7. I like the Daffodil Hat. Some are really not my style as they are more bold than I like to wear but I can totally see your stuff on Gals going down the runway. :)
Online I mainly sell hats and amigurumi and custom work. As of late I made a Blue Raspberry Cream Pie and Chocolate Cake with Blue Frosting.

ps I learned the Afghan stitch from you. :)

  9. It is sad that people expect a low price on ebay and etsy but through another blog http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/2010/02/my-entry.html the I found this sitehttp://oddmolly.com/ who feature quite a lot of crochet clothes often made up from granny squares at really expensive prices ie. £350.00 GBP for a cardigan which they are able to sell. Just shows what boutique type shops can do. Janxx

ps I hope i posted the links the right way

  10. I agree with you Tinker899. If I were to set something up again, I would do it myself as Karrie's Creations has suggested.

  12. You could sell them on here. You have enough followers and word of mouth will spead quickly. You could also sell special patterns (ones you have not posted for free-thank you for your generosity by the way). You could also sell your patterns on Ravelry.com.

  13. You should try out artfire.com They offer their services for free unlike Etsy and if you want to expand your shop you can then choose to pay a small fee. I suggest you check it out if you feel like selling anything again ;o)
