Kids Learning Crochet

In many communities, school is out for the summer in North America. Crochet would be a great and inexpensive way to keep your kids entertained for hours. We all know how kids tend to "out do" adults at times. I can't think of a better way to let them out do us. Not only that, a lot of math is involved that we don't even think about.

Another thought is that crochet would be a great craft for summer camps. If you or someone you know is in need of ideas or links, please comment or write.

  1. Hi, I love your videos because they help me a lot, and that's exactly how I learned to crochet. I am one of those "kids learning crochet" and I think it would really be helpful to me if I can give you some various patterns that I am confused on, and you could make a video on how to crochet them. I don't know if that is possible, but thanks for teaching me how to crochet with your video tutorials.
Sorry for the long post by the way. :D

  4. I am interested in ANY links you have for teaching kids. My little girl is dying to be able to crochet with Mommy and I have no idea where to start teaching her at.

  5. Stacy,
I am including my beginner crochet playlist. I would suggest starting with the single crochet or half double crochet. It is not necessary to teach all the stitches at once.

    Beginner Crochet Stitches

    Crochet Hats

I am including the playlist for hats. Maybe let her pick out an easy hat and base the stitch choice off of that. Have her practice a little bit with the basic stitch. Once it looks like she gets the idea, then start working on a hat. Maybe you can make one the same time she is making one. Simple easy projects will create an interest in learning more since the person feels they accomplished something even if it is a tiny project. When frustration comes enters the picture, a person will tend to not be interested.

Crochet Flower - How to Add Rounds

I am including a flower. You can find the full playlist on my main YT channel page. You can work it through the first set of petals for another easy project idea.

If your daughter plays with dolls, you can have her practicing the basic crochet stitches and call them blankets for her dolls. She will be completing something right off the bat. I would focus on showing her where to place the hook through the top of the stitch. Don't worry about uneven stitches since that will come in time with practice.

  7. Hi Theresa! I am teaching my 10 year old how to crochet. Thanks for the videos, I'm going to let her watch. We were at the doctor's office last night and she pulled out her yarn & needle, I thought it was the cutest thing, especially since I forgot mine!!!

  10. I want my kids to craft but not sure if they should learn crochet first. My 9 year old daughter gets confused easily and is probably not that keen so have only showed her once. My boys may show interest and I want them to learn properly. I think workshops and camps would be great.
