Thank you for the hat pattern. It looks quite simple, yet lovely.
ReplyDeleteHi Teresa, Your videos are always great and this pattern looks really cool! I want to do a cap for 3 year old. Will this pattern fit? I'm from Blore, India and dont go by hook size as we dont get that here. And I always end up getting a smaller cap than the measurements you give. I will short by an inch or so. How should I increase the size of the cap?
ReplyDeleteAnitha,
ReplyDeleteThe way I have made the hat, it will fit a head 21-23". Hats are made according to the size of the persons head.
Thanks Teresa... The article really helps
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pattern! It looks good :) I'm wondering if you have made a beanie using the treble stitch? With mostly 3tr in each space...I had a beanie like this and wanted to use it to make a pattern but I can't find it :( Any ideas?
ReplyDeletefelicitylouise85,
ReplyDeleteThat almost sounds like the granny type pattern. That is something I can add to my project list.
My beanie came out baby sized! :O Maybe it's because I used thin worsted wight yarn an was working too tightly. I will try it again though; I'll add more rows of increases, that should fix it.
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteThe smaller yarn will make a difference in addition to your individual crochet style. Adding more increase rounds will make the hat larger.
Between your youtubing and blogger you single handedly taught me how to crochet in about one afternoon. You're a fantastic teacher. Thanks. Oh, and I made this hat and I look great in it!
ReplyDeleteBrooke,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment. I appreciate it.
~~Teresa
Do you have instructions for one with ear flaps? Thank you. ;>)
ReplyDeleteYou taught me how to make a skull cap on youtube. It is such a good video that I purchased it. Made one for my daughter and one for my granddaughter and now everyone wants one. They are quick, easy and fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks Teresa
Teresa, I'm a college student who used to crochet as a girl...your patterns and videos have inspired me to crochet again almost ten years later. I just finished the beanie skull cap and its adorable. I now crochet in all the in between moments of life, and people think I'm nuts...but they want me to make them things. :D What a joy. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeletethis i s my very 1st attempt at making something other then a blanket or scarf! I was quite scared but you video has helped me - so far so good!!
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how long I've tried to learn to crochet, with no success and lots of unused yarn. I learned to crochet in a single morning watching this video and made this hat as my first project in about a day. I think what you do is so spectacular and look forward to making more things from your videos and blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for stopping by to leave a comment. I really appreciate it. Everyone is so wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt is great to hear about crochet success stories instead of frustrated crocheters. My motivation is to eliminate frustration.
Hi Teresa!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to know how to increase to make this larger. I mean, in what round should I make another increase? I followed your directions, it was just a little too tight. I used Red Heart yarn and a size J crochet hook. Thank you very much for your help and all your videos and patterns!
I cant figure out how you can fit 9 HDC in the ring of 3 stitches. Is it possible to break this step down further. Im lost :(
ReplyDeleteis it ok to use a size H crochet hook instead of an I?
ReplyDeleteStarted learning crochet two days ago with your videos. Today I made this cap in pink for my 7 month old daughter (with less rounds), added a small flower (2nd) in white and she looks simply lovely! Moving on to another project, this is addictive! Thank you Teresa!
ReplyDeleteI needed a beanie for a costume I'm making, but had no crotchet experiences for the past twenty years. A friend of mine heard about it, and linked me this pattern and after a few troubled starts (mostly me being too uncertain of doing it right) I got a good go and finished my first beanie in only three hours time!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to do and good to follow thanks to your clear instructions, both written and video! Thanks for this pattern!
Round 6-16: CH 3, HDC, CH 1, in each space. Join each round with a single crochet. (30 Half double crochet chain 1 total)
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean "CH3, HDC, CH 1 in each space." or "CH 3, HDC, CH 1 *HDC, CH 1 in each space."
I am an experienced knitter but a relatively new crocheter. As it reads to me (and I may be wrong) it tells me to Chain 3 in each HDC as you go around and not just the first on rounds 6-16. I would love a clarification. Thank you.
I have the same comment as danielle, at the end of round 6 do I sc chain3 after every round?
ReplyDeleteI haven't done this pattern yet but from glancing at it quickly, I would guess that the CH 3 is just the "beginning HDC" and is not repeated.
ReplyDeleteI thank-you for the cap pattern. it was easy to follow and fun to make. I added a crochet flower to the side. It turned out cute. I wanted to make this style cap but for winter use help?
ReplyDelete@Sherry,
ReplyDeleteI have a beanie cap pattern that has solid stitches if that is what you are looking for as a winter cap.
Thank you so much for the patterns and the video tutorials. I made caps for both my DDs and I love how they turned out, even if they're not perfect. I put up pictures on my blog and a link back to your site here! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your tutorials! You have completely taught me how to crochet, and given me enough confidence to even make up a few patterns! I'm now starting to make hats for kids with cancer, thank you for all your help!
ReplyDeleteHow can I add another increase round to this cap?
ReplyDeleteHow can I add another increase round to this cap
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern. I did get a little frustrated though when you would 'cut' the video before joining the rounds. It's much easier to do a first time pattern when you can see crucial steps like that, but I eventually figured it out. I wanted to know how do you size this beanie? Do you make less/more increase rounds, or does just the jumber of rounds (i.e. 6-16) determine the size? Specifically, I am trying to make a 19" hat for a 2 year old. Thank you for your time!
ReplyDeleteI really love this pattern. I did find it a bit frustrating though when you would 'cut' away from what you were doing when you were joining most of the time. It is much more helpful to see that part for me than to see the slow motion thing. I eventually figured it out though. I need to make this hat about 19" for a two year old and noticed that you do not say how to size it. Would I just do a more subtle increase round than the last one or something? Maybe for rows 6-16 does making less rows make it smaller? I would hoping you could help clear this up for me. Thank you for your time. I have learned a great deal from your videos.
ReplyDeleteI have posted two comments and they are not showing up.. :-/
ReplyDeleteI have made several of these beanies using different sized hooks for my 11 grand kids. Thanks for the pattern!
ReplyDeleteHi Teresa. I love this hat! I have made 6 in the last 2 days (1-1/2hr to make). I want to make some for a church bazaar. What is your policy for selling items made from your patterns?
ReplyDeleteSince I couldn't find my "I" hook, I made 2 using a "K" hook. They were a bit tight on my aunt and sister. So I decided to use a "M" hook. Works great with enough stretch and snap back. I am going to try using the "I and J" hook and increase the starting ring with 12 hdc instead 10. I will also try a starting ring of 14-16 for a man's hat. Yes, I have a few men who want me to make a hat for them. This pattern is so giving. See why I love it so?! Good for year-round wear.
What is the best size for a tapestry needle that crochet yarn will fit easily into?
ReplyDeleteRegina - I use all different sizes, mostly size 22-24 for 4 ply yarn. Different needle
Deletebrands may have different sizing.
