SC DEC - Single Crochet Decrease
Knot Stitch - Pull the loop up 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. Wrap the yarn over the hook and pull through the loop, leaving a gap in the center. Work a single crochet between the gap to complete the knot stitch.
Size I.5.5mm crochet hook
4 ply yarn
Work 60 Foundation Single Crochet or your can chain 61, join and work 60 single crochet.
Round 2-4: CH 1, Work 1 SC in ea SC around, join at the beginning. If you used the foundation stitch, sew up the gap that will be formed when joining the foundation in a circle. Knot and sew in the tail.
Round 5: Work the first knot stitch, then the second knot stitch, skip, 3 SC, work a single crochet in the next stitch. Continue around for 14 knot stitches. Work the first part of the knot stitch. You will want to end at the center top of the round. Insert the hook to the base of the beginning knot stitch. Pull the loop up and through the loop on the hook. Wrap the yarn over and through the loop on the hook. Work a single crochet in the top of the first KS. (15 Knot Stitch Loops Total)
Round 6-11: Work two KS. Continue around for a total of 14 loops. Insert the hook to the base of the beginning knot stitch in the first SC. Pull the loop up and through the loop on the hook. Wrap the yarn over and through the loop on the hook. Work a single crochet in the top of the first KS. (15 Knot Stitch Loops Total)
Round 12: Work 1 SC in the single crochet at the top of each knot stitch for a total of 15, join with the beginning SC. This is to join the top of the cover.
Round 13: Work a single crochet in the first SC, leave the two loops on the hook, insert the hook thorough the next stitch and pull the loop up. There will be 3 loops on the hook. Wrap the yarn over and pull through all 3 loops for the first single crochet decrease. Work 6 more SC DEC. Upon completion of this round cut a long tail and pull through the last stitch.
Thread the yarn through the tapestry needle. Weave the needle through each stitch pulling tightly to close the gap. Sew the top secure to close up. Knot and sew in the tail.
Cut a long tail and evenly sew the cover to the edge of your hat of choice. You will be able ease the hats together if they do not fit and one has more fullness than the other.
