  1. What a great giveaway! I really don't have a favorite yarn. I use a lot of Red Heart yarn as it is easily available here at my local Wal-Mart. The last few days, however, I have been crocheting some baby booties and bonnets out of Aunt Lydia's crochet cotton.
    Have a Blessed Day,

  5. I mostly use I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby, it is soft but it also shows great stitch definition and just sort of glides through your fingers. You can throw it in the washer and dryer and it comes out great, an all around great product!
My email address is lalltop@woh.rr.com . Thanks for asking as I love to go on about this yarn. Lynn

  6. The Caron is really nice to use especially when doing hats but I love to use the Red Heart Yarn. The yardage sold me over because with just a normal size skein, I make at least three of your round pouches with. Its cheap but it goes a long way. Thank Teresa for all your hard work in teaching us.

  7. I recently used Caron one pounder and was amazed to see how soft it is when compared to redheart! Ofcourse being in India I can only use it as long as I have it in my stash and hope and pray that my relatives bring some for me when they visit us:) Otherwise I find the local Vardhaman Yarn also to be good to work baby stuff with!

  8. Lately I have been using a lot of all cotton but I think the acrylic yarns are a little easier to work with. Nice giveaway!

  9. Hi Teresa,

I really like to use red heart soft yarn. I started using it to make your V-st scarf for friends and family. On skein make the perfect length scarf and it is soft and beautiful. I also like to use the eco-friendly yarn for projects when I can. I'm currently using Caron yarn to make a patterned summer top and that is because I really liked the color.

P.S. I really need to thank you because I learned to crochet after finding your videos on YouTube. Now I tell everyone who is interested to check out your blog and YouTube videos. Thank you so much. Crochet really is one of my passions now.

  10. I can't remember the brand but walmart had this yarn made out of recycled plastic bottles. I thought that was pretty awesome, plus it was so soft.

  11. I'm just picking up crocheting again myself, and with two young kids, I've been wanting to try to make things geared for their age groups. I honestly don't know much about different yarns just yet, but hearing how soft the Caron is, I think I'll definitely be trying it out.
Your videos have been helping me out a lot too, remembering old stitches and learning new ones.. Thanks so much! =)

  12. Caron is my absolute favorite kind of yarn to work with! I have a 9 month old son, and I find that Caron is soft enough for me to make things for him with, but it is also durable, and I find that it works up very nicely. Anyways, I've never entered one of your giveaways, but I've always wanted to. So here I am, entering. Anyways, good luck to everyone!

  13. I used to exclusively use Red Heart yarn because their consistency in color, not to mention the quantity you get for your money but I have been trying several different types of yarn lately. I really love to work with Bernat Bamboo but it is not always a good choice depending on the project. I also use a lot of Cascade 220 wool yarn and Sugar N Cream cotton yarn.

  14. Thank you for doing this wonderful giveaway!
I have recently re-discovered crochet and yarns I have used recently include Red Heart, Lion Wool-Ease, Bernet Softee Chunkee and some mixed lot stuff I got on ebay.
I like Red Heart for the price and because its machine washable (a must for my charity projects). I like the Bernet because its SOOOO soft.. I made myself an oversize craft bag... going to really enjoy this!
The Lion is ok too - just not (yet) a favorite.

  19. So far I like sugar n' cream a lot however I am looking for other natural yarns to use. I have always wanted to use them but didn't know where to find them and when I did they were rather expensive. I would love to try silk. I just don't like the way acrylic's feel in general. They are to scratchy. Anyway... You can contact me (Juls) at julsfulk@gmail.com. And thanks for all your wonderful tutorials. They have been wonderful as I am very visual.

  25. Thanks for another giveaway!

My favorite yarn depends on the project. Let me just share with you my favorite yarn for baby afghans. I almost exclusively use Bernat Softee Baby. This yarn is wonderful! I can't recommend it enough. Besides the initial quality of the afghans, it holds up well. Baby afghans get washed fairly often, and this yarn will stand up to the washing machine and dryer.

    Happy Crocheting!

  26. Thanks for offering this great Giveaway! My favorite yarn this week is the self striping sock yarn. I love how it makes it's own design. My current project - I'm combining it with 3 strands of worsted weight, and using a pattern similiar to the oval pattern you recently posted... to make scatter rugs. They come out nice, with the sock yarn showing as little flecks of color throughout. Thanks for your great ideas, I enjoy your blog.

I loved the softness of that bamboo mix yarn and how quickly the project(scarf) was finished. So my vote to Naturally Caron! :)

Sorry I commented in the wrong post. New to this. Anyways your oval tutorial was extremely helpful too

I have to read the labels as I am very allergic to wool. I have made a couple of tops out of size 10 bedspread cotton. When they are washed, they are so soft too. Thanks for allowing me to comment. 52. First, let me say that I think your blog is a doing a very important job in the crochet world. You do a very good job of presenting your material and are going a long way towards educating all of us.

I love yarn. Lately I have been using a bit of custom dyed yarn from an online seller which I talk about in my blog, and I LOVE it! The current yarn is probably going to be a favorite, a tencel/rayon blend that is just fabulous!

I have and use a lot of Red Heart yarn for bags, toys, and so on. I use Simply soft for scarves, hats and outwear. I am not much for wool as I live in the south, but for my northern relatives I have used some wool.

I also have a lot of cotton yarn, Peaches N Cream, Sugar and Cream types and some fashion cottons and love them for spring and summer weight items. I use a lot of mercerized crochet thread, size 3 or 5. Cool Crochet, Omega Sinfonia and Patons Grace are wonderful! Egyptian cotton yarns are divine.

I LOVE Knit One Crochet Two's yarn Ty Dy and Ty Dy sock. Also their stretchy yarn Soxx Appeal is great for a crocheted support glove I make for friends.

For me, the choice of yarn depends totally on what I want the final outcome to be.

  99. I have always loved worsted weight yarn, but I have a new fave with my recent use of Lily's Sugar and Cream for an afghan for my baby granddaughter. It feels so soft as you crochet, and the afghan is so soft as well. Thanks for the chance to win the mags.

  101. FIrst off, to answer the question. Right now, I seem to be addicted to #3 Crochet Thread. It has a good hand feel and I like the weight.

You do such neat things on your blog. You are inspiring. Some day I will have to start teaching and presenting more patterns on my own blog.

I love bernat yarn the best, but caron is nice also. It really depends on what I am making......themommie2@hotmail.com

  110. There really are very few places here to get yarn or knitting and crochet supplies. Thankfully Wal-Mart does carry a few yarn choices though! I might just be a "redneck" (as my sister calls me), but I really love all of the Red Heart and Bernat series of yarns. I favor the multi-colored yarns especially as I don't like doing things the same as everyone else. Hehee. :D

I have to say thank you for all of your videos! I have to admit that for about 3 years I tried to crochet but couldn't make heads or tails of it. With the help of your videos I have "taken flight", so to speak. While I haven't done much more than a hat and slippers yet, I am on my way because of you.

    Have a great day!

  111. I am using acrylic yarn from Minlon. Cotton yarn or other fancy ones are very expensive. I love your crochet patterns and tips. They are great, and i just learn how to crochet my first cube.
    Thanks for the giveaway.

  119. Sorry to read about your misfortune with Herrschners... I order from them often and so far havent been disappointed.. =(

Now... as far as My favorite yarn.. so far, I have to say that it is Lion Brand Homespun... I like the softness and the warmth (especially for this past cold winter) of it as it was laying on my lap as I made a shawl from it.

Ive been using more and more thread lately, as Ive gotten into making doilies and table covers...

Thanks for your great videos and blog, I appreciate you teaching me a new skill! Have a great day!

  121. I don't know if I have a favorite yet - I keep experimenting. I like acrylics like Caron Simply Soft - although I have issues with it splitting sometimes. I've recently discovered Hobby Lobby's I Love This Cotton - is is SO much softer than Sugar 'n Cream; it's awesome to work with. I'm also having fun playing with different threads.

  122. Hi Theresa!

I can't believe that you're giving away so soon!

I love your work, you're amazing.

Ok, I'm from Spain, so the yarns are a little different here. I don't have much possibilities for buying yarn because the stores here in Cádiz don't have much yarns and the prices are very high, imagine, some skeins of 50g cost 5.90 euros! It's very expensive.

I like to crochet with 4mm and 5mm hooks, so I try to find acrylic yarns. I love "Katia" yans, buy sometimes I have to make it double to get the correct gauge.

I also like crocheting with Dyc yarn, that you can use with a mm or 3.5mm crochet hook.

Sometimes it's difficult for me to get the perfect yarn because there's not much to choose here, so I'm thinking in ordering from the Internet, if there's a International store :)

Anyway, thanks for the giving away and thanks for every videos and tutorials, I really love them. Because of you I (an autodidact) can understand some things about crocheting, like where to insert the hook, working on circles instead of spirals, the gauge...

For summer, I will try the crochet the hat with brim :)

    Best Regards,

    Sole

  124. I recently started using the i love this Yarn brand. I enjoy the softness of the yarn and the variety of color that it comes in. I purchase te yarn at Hobby Lobby. It also comes in cotton. I like yarn that comes in a wide variety of colors. I like to create my own designs and like it when I can find the colors that actually match the picture in my head. :)

  128. My favorite really depends on the project. I agree Caron does have some nice yarns. Currently I'm into felting purses and since Caron discontinued their "Felt-it" yarn, I've moved to my first choice of Paton's Merino with Lionbrand Wool being a close second. I want to try some different brands, but haven't ventured forth yet for various reasons. Good luck with your contest.

  129. Hi Teresa, My favorite yarn depends on the project, but I am liking the spa yarns, bamboo, and I like Caron too.

  131. Crochet Giveaway #9...Thanks for the opportunity for this giveaway...my favorite yarns are those that are slightly unusual witha different texture or fibre content..they could be made from any of the manufactureres. If I use a consistent thickness yarn I will choose a Patons yarn.

  132. Hi Teresa.

I like Bamboo and 100% cotton yarns. But unfortunately such yarns are expensive in my country so most of the crocheters here use acrylic. There is no particular brand that I like and my favourite size to crochet with is sports weight.

Oh and I want to be entered for the giveaway!

  135. I absolutely am loving the Red Heart Designer Sport. I got some on clearance and it's a really nice yarn to work with.

Although I did just get some Bernat Cashmere and I can't WAIT to do something with it. Just petting the yarn had me drooling. And 99 cents on clearance was even better!!!

  136. First I want to thank you for all the help yu provide to crocheters like me. The videos are so easy to follow and it seems you always have an answer to my questions.
The yarn I like the best so far is Caron Simply Soft. It seems this is "baby" time and I am now on my 4th afghan. Simply Soft is light enough and easy to work with. Washes up real well.

  142. Oh boy! I love giveaways!! Whats even better, is that I have been wanting to learn how to crochet but I am kinda ADHD, I have probs learning from a book. :(
But my biggest problem, is with this economy I can't really afford the materials, so this is great!! Oh and I love, love your blogs Teresa!! My fave is your Filet Crochet Blog..BTW, what software do you use to make the charts? Hugs 2 you! I've got my fingers crossed!
