SK 2 sc, 1 SC in the next SC, SK 2 sc, *5 DC in the next, SK 2 sc, 1 SC in the next sc, sk 2 sc, Complete 4 times total from *, SK 2 sc, 5 DC in the end SC, SC in the same SC, Working down the opposite side: *5 DC opposite the previous shell, sk 2 sc, SC in next SC, sk 2 sc, complete 5 times total from *, sk 2 sc, 5 DC in the last SC opposite the shell on previous side, SL ST together in beg SC.
Round 2: SL ST to the 3rd DC, CH 1 SC in same ST, *5 DC in the next SC, SC in the 3rd(center) of the next shell. Complete 9 times total from *, 5 DC in next SC, SL ST in beg SC to join.

Round 3-12: SL ST to the 3rd DC, CH 1 SC in same ST, *5 DC in the next SC, SC in the 3rd(center) of the next shell. Complete 9 times total from *, 5 DC in next SC, SL ST in beg SC to join.

Cut the yarn leaving about an 18 inch tail for sewing the edges shut. Lay the pouch horizontal with the opening to the top. Fold the opening in the vertical direction. This will create the square shape. I like to run the thread to the point and sew the opening shut from one point to another, staggering the shells.

I took my shell potholder one step farther and added circles folded in half to make a heart.

  2. Hi teresa!!!!

I Love this pattern and cant wait to try it. I saw that you added the heart part of it, how did you do this part? Is it basically like you do the regular crochet heart, find the center and go from there? This is really neat.

  4. Harold2,
I made two circles, then folded them in half and sewed them to the square. I do have a heart potholder pattern posted. The only thing different is that I used the shell pattern to replace a basic crochet stitch.
