How I Learned to Crochet

I had tinkered around with crocheting when I was about 11 or so, which would have been around 1973. I had a cousin show my mom how to make the puff stitch. She was crocheting a six sided rug. For some reason I remembered that pattern in my head. I had no idea how to read patterns or what stitches were called at that time. I went home, asked my mom for some yarn. I played around with the yarn and made a small rug. That was about it for crochet, until I got older. 
In 1983, I was expecting my second child and on bed rest. My mom started me off with crochet snowflakes, size 10 bedspread cotton and basic crochet stitches.
Crochet is a process that will continue after learning the basic stitches. I taught myself the rest of crochet through practice and learning how to read crochet written instructions and symbol instructions on my own. Back then we did not have video and I was not living close to family that could show me how the stitches worked and the meaning of abbreviations. It may take…
